Focus is a critical part of riding your motorcycle. Lack of focus can have very negative results!

So many things & place to go & look at, but focus is choice. We choose our focus not just for the ride, but for life…

Here are some thoughts on focus that I trust will be helpful. Psalm 141:8 -“But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD ;  in you I take refuge-do not give me over to death. 9 - Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, from the traps set by evildoers.”

¡  Focus determines Direction

Don’t look around anxiously; focus on where you need to be going. If you look all over the place you will be all over the place – unstable, undecided. Ps 141:8-“But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD” – direction is a choice! Focus on where you want to go or you’ll end up going where you look.

¡  Controlling your direction is better than being controlled by it – Jack Welsh

Direction needs to come from the ONE I submit to - “YOUR kingdom come, YOUR will be done…” – Sovereign Lord (Supreme Ruler. Jesus teaches that we learn to lead by following – we learn not by commanding others; but by obeying our Commanding Officer. Obedience is a strict diet - John 4:34 – “Jesus said to them, my food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish His work”.  We live in a culture where the individual has become the centre of the universe - all about me; me incorporated.  We are continually pressed to consider our options? For the believer obedience to God is not optional!    If I focus on Jesus I’ll be going His direction. Don’t expect trouble free ride, you've been called to do the Father’s business – it will involve enduring storms and enjoying the victories of staying focused. But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD.

¡  Focus determines Action

Action is the response of obedience. We respond in obedience because we love God more than ourselves & our ideas & agendas. Mat 22:37 - Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. I never obey because I have to. I obey because my heart & life don’t belong to Jesus.

¡  ‘Obedience is simply translating what we hear into action’ – G Wilkes

You & I are called to ‘risk’ our ‘well being’ for the sake of the mission we have from the Father. How much of a ‘risk’ is it to obey God? Risk is really called faith. I can’t be complacent, I’m called to be committed to see HIS kingdom come & HIS will be done…the rest are simply details that don’t really matter. Obedience is not automatic; it’s a surrender of my will & momentarily decision to stay focused. What if I mess up? Focused people don’t fail; they just restart with more resolve to do it better next time. Mistakes don’t determine my value; they remind me of my need to stay focused. My Heavenly Father’s love is the safety net for my decisions.

¡  Focus determines Outcome

But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD - there is no plan ‘B’. Plan ‘B’ is inspired by unbelief.  Most people begin to doubt and second guess the word of God because they move their focus from Him to the circumstances. Who or what made you doubt? Repent & get back to “my eyes are fixed on you O Sovereign Lord” – back to first love – (Rev2:4). Declare your focus- I put my trust in YOU Lord- not Jesus & something else – Jesus!  “I called, you answered me, you made me bold and stouthearted– Psalm 138:3 (NIV). The underlined words mean - Might & inflexibility to temptation – “my eyes are fixed on you Sovereign Lord”–”Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;  you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me.” He knows the pitfalls we have to avoid, the plateaus we reach and the peaks we have to climb…   Faith will take you beyond the limits of your logic, reason & senses. It enables you to believe that if God said it; it’s true – faith means acting like God is telling the truth.  - But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD - there is no plan ‘B’. God has the ability to restore, redeem and redirect us so that we can find & focus on His plan. Somebody said - Faith is the ‘currency of the supernatural!
